"Hi, I’m Lucas Bodde and I participated in the Little Wolf Learn to Hunt mentored hunt.  The week before the hunt we went to a class to learn about the hunting program and to meet our mentor Andy.  We learned about calling turkeys, how to aim, what to pack for food and what clothes to stay warm and hidden.  After lunch we were able to target practice.  On Saturday, April 8th, I woke up at 3:10 am to get dressed and packed for the day.  We we left our house at 4:10 am to meet our mentor at 4:30 am.  We arrived at the land and were out to our tent by 5:00 am.  We put up our decoys and went into our tent.  We waited a half hour before doing an owl call.  The owl call helps to wake up the animals and possibly get the turkeys to start to call.   Once it was light, we called the turkeys.  We heard a gobble back.  It sounded like we had two gobble back.  We kept calling but weren’t able to call any birds out.   Through the morning we kept calling with no response.  We decided to leave for lunch and come back for the afternoon.   At around 1:00 pm we were back in the tent and called again.  We heard another gobble back from a turkey. The turkey still didn’t come out.   We called a lot in the afternoon and still no answer.  We waited until just about closing time and decided to pack up.  Even though we didn’t get to see a turkey, we still learned a lot.  We didn’t go out the next day because it was Easter. I enjoyed the hunt and maybe will have better luck next year."
